depending on where you live, all of mine have lived thru the winters in GA and we had snow and ice the last couple of years and I just cut them back and if it got really cold I covered them with a sheet or plastic -
If you live enough north that gardenias are not native, then bringing in the plant for the winter is a good idea. When your gardenia gets too big for a container you can bring inside, its big enough to stay outside and probably live. Best wishes 😇

Yes. Gardenia are not winter hardy everywhere - not where I live. Bring in side, sit near a sunny window.
