A Store Bought Pumpkin Gets a Vintage Vibe

It's hard to find vintage inspired pumpkins at a retail store so I decided to make a couple of my own. I found vintage doily's at an antique store and purchased a couple of pumpkins from a craft store. After painting the pumpkins, I added the doily, a knob and voila - a vintage inspired pumpkin perfect for my fall decor.
It's super simple to transform a pumpkin into something you don't find in stores. All you need is a store bought pumpkin, a doily, paint, paint brush or sponge brush, a knob or drawer pull, fabric glue and hot glue.
Remove the stem by untwisting or pulling it out. Be careful not to make a large hole. Then start painting. This one took about 3 coats of paint to get it to the thickness and color I wanted.
Now simply lay out the doily and add the fabric glue to the edges and a drop or two all over the rest of it. Make sure when you put the doily on the pumpkin that the center hole lines up with the hole where you removed the stem.
You can add the knob or drawer pull after the doily dries. Some holes are tight enough that you won't need to hot glue it in but some are not. I didn't need to do anything to this one. I love how it turned out. It's got the soft vintage look I was going for. For additional information and other fall ideas, check out my blog. www.countyroad407.com

Cindy, I love the look of the pumpkin with the doily. Great job, girl. This is a very refreshing look to the old ho-hum ordinary pumpkin. You're very creative ! Thanks so much for sharing.

I don't see why not. Black would be gorgeous as would any color really. I can see so many color ideas poking through the holes in the doilies! Have fun!
