spray hot peppers all over the pumpkins they wont eat it
Hairspray. I seriously don't know but here is a link that provides many tactics (solutions). https://www.catseyepest.com/blog/how-keep-squirrels-away-your-pumpkins and btw here is another solution although a bit on the humourous side http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/30/squirrels-carve-pumpkin-video_n_6077072.html
Squirrels don't like hot pepper flakes. So try putting hot pepper flakes on and around the pumpkins.
You might try giving them an alternative to the pumpkins by feeding them nuts or seeds away from the pumpkins.

put red pepper around the pumpkins.
Rub cooking oil, then sprinkle with cayenne pepper, or pepper flakes. Good Luck!
