How to replace water dispensor corroded flap on Samsung ref/freezer?

The flap is terribly corroded. Samsung said to replace the small flap, the whole gismat has to be replaced and replacement is about $240.00. The only thing ever on the flap was water. It looks terrible. I recently did try vinegar and CLR. I think it is worse and perhaps unsanitary too.

Wrap a vinegar soaked rag around it and let it soak over night and see if it will take the calcium off, or part of it, repeat if necessary. See if that will work.
Spray vodka on to clean. Save your big pennies till you can afford to replace. Is there a way to do away with the flap and still have water or whatever it dispenses.
I would use steel wool 00 to 000 on the rusted area, if this doesn't remove it all use some naval jelly (mask off all painted surfaces first) this will remove it quick. Its caustic so wear kitchen rubber gloves. Wipe clean with warm wet rag. Dry well, use blow dryer if need, the spray paint with Rustoleum Appliance spray paint.
