Pumice stone works when nothing else does.

add enough water to the bowl so that it goes above the level of the ring & try adding a cup or 2 of bleach or some liquid chlorine to the bowl & allow to sit a minimum of a few hrs or overnight& if that dont remove it then try CLR,or straight a 1/2-1 gal. Of white vinegar to the bowl same way as Doing the chlorine,or you can try using the vinegar or CLR method 1st,if you don't feel comfortable using bleach or liquid chlorine. The difference between bleach & liquid chlorine? Household bleach only contains about 2-4% chlorine, where as liquid chlorine contains Up to 8-12%,I use the liquid chlorine in place of bleach for pressure washing decks, patios & siding to remove all mildew, green moss &algae growth,& it's a great value compared to clorox or dollar store bleach, cause it's stronger & pretty much the same price & right now liquid chlorine should be marked down to 2/$5 or not more than $3-4.00 a gal

If it is rust, use a product called Iron Out.

Use a great product that is a heavy duty pumice stone made by Pumie. Cheap and available on Amazon.
