Need advice on hardwood flooring install
I'm getting ready to replace my wood floors (long overdue...can't wait). The rooms we're doing are the breakfast area, the living room and a hall. The breakfast area and the living room are pretty much the same area. However, the hall creates an "L" shape from the other rooms. My plan was to lay the big rooms and then use a transition to the hall and lay the hall longways (length) rather than short ways (width). Laying them lengthwise would put the wood in the hall floor and the big area floor at 90 degree angle. I've gotten some opinions that I should lay the floor in the hall with the planks running width-wise to match the install of the big area instead of using a transition. The hall is pretty prominent and close to the front door, so I can't make a mistake here. Thoughts? Thanks!

@Carolannthompson, your floor will be amazing! Continue with the flooring as if you were putting in a wood floor in a space with no walls. Then you can see how laying all the planks in the same direction makes sense. Best wishes with either way 😇
Buy a roll of butcher paper, cut in lengh and width of your intended hardwood. Now lay out your "pattern" and play with the design until you find the arrangement that looks and flows the best. Then you will not make a mistake and know how much product to order. I typically order 15 - 25% more product to account for odd cuts, possible damaged product and a healthy reserve of boards to keep for future use in case of damage in years to come. Any unopened boxes can always be returned.
