  • Your washer needs a cleaning. Or the spply lines need to be replaced. If you have a center rotating spindle, the fabric dispenser cup is removable and everyone forgets to clean that part, I bet it is moldy. Use vinegar, not bleach to disinfect.

baking soda would be my first option, but you might want to give them a wash in the hottest water you have, with a double-dose of Oxy-Clean or similar.

Try using vinegar in your rinse cycle it acts as a softener as well about 1/4 cup. Your towels will smell fresh and fluffy!

Add borax to the water when you wash and be sure to transfer them immediately to the dryer. Sour smell usually comes because they have "soured', either waiting to be put in the dryer or being left damp in the dryer.

putting a wash on -with no clothes inside- using just Coca -Cola (full sugar one, not diet) 1/2 of a 2 liter bottle. Some firefighters use Coca-Cola to wash their clothes if they are smell smoky or dirty. Could you ask someone to wash a load of your towels in their washer to rule out totally that it is not your machine?

It was my 1st thought as we had that issue. I also clean my washing machine monthly and use just bleach and hot water in longest cycle. That may help. And I use unscented products
