Cleaning up damaged aluminium pan lid

I accidentally ran my (best) old aluminium saucepan's lid through the dishwasher ....... that soap is so strong, it turned the aluminium lid a darker shade than the pan. It's not so damaged that it can't be used......it just looks awful. Is there a fix, or am I stuck ?

Have you tried something like soft scrub with letting it sit on it for awhile and then scrub and rinse
barkeeper's friend, or Bon Ami.
both contain oxalic acid, which will counteract the caustic soap, and should remove the 'scale' - I just did this to my Farberware pot, which got badly blackened after I forgot to add more water to a batch of boiled peanuts...
I guess those things were just too simple for my brain !!! I will try them tonight because if I can, I just have to save this pot and lid from the
