Will basil come up again in my garden or do I have to replant it?

You need to replant basil each year.
  • Need to start again. I have had some come up randomly on its own, but I grow a bunch every year and there is always some that ends up "going to seed" and wherever that seed went, it comes up.

Most likely it won't come back unless you are in really warm climate. It can reseed itself, but most herbs are considered annuals. Save the seeds and plant them next year, or start with a purchased plant.

Basil is an annual. If you live in a cold area it will die back and you will need to replant it.

It will come up again as long as you don't cut off all the branches, and keep it watered and it doesn't freeze.

Basil is a perennial, but needs protection from extreme and long-time cold. It should grow back if protected from the cold.
