Since your tiles are already removed, start with step 2. You'll need a hair dryer, some adhesive removing solvent (try your hardware store) and a scrubbie..

Probably get as much off as you can so the different adhesive doesn't have a reaction with the old. They do make sanding wheels that remove paint that you use in a drill that might work.
I have never seen anyone else with this tile. We removed ours several years ago. We removed all the adhesive with a heat gun. It took a while but it enabled us to start with a clean slate.
