i recommend a cordless drill Royobi has a nice light weight drill. The secret is in the drill bits. Get a set that has drill bits and drivers.

Dewalt, Ryobi or Kobalt are all good brands. If you are just using for basic picture hanging, shelves, etc. A 12 volt battery operated should work just fine.

Get one that is cordless, at least 18 or more volts. You do get what you pay for, so get a good brand that is on sale, you can get more bits and accessories for them and will probably be easier to replace any parts. This will give you the power you need so you don't end up having to get a different one for heavier jobs. You can also get different screwdriver bit sets and use it for that too. The larger volt ones will be larger and heavier, but the small ones don't hold up very long if you have anything you want to do that puts stress on it.

If you plan on doing minor repairs and home Dec projects, a rechargeable drill will suffice. Just be sure to buy good titanium drill bits in a variety of sizes. I purchased a Ryobi drill and it has a cord, but the cordless rechargeable drills are more versatile. There are several other brands that are just as good, and your home improvement store will also be able to guide your purchase.

Black and Decker, Kobalt, Ryobi, Skil, are all good brands and the battery technology is such that all of them are good. We always buy at least 1 extra battery so that you can change it out on a longer project.

If you are not using it for heavy duty projects such as building a shed or a fence, etc.. a smaller sized one may be just what you need.

For picture hanging around the and some smaller projects around the house we use the heck out of our little cordless screwdrivers... my husband liked mine so much that I had to go buy a 2nd one just to keep in the house. They are so handy to grab and use.

if you won’t use it a lot get one on sale with a bunch of bits to use all over. If you plan to use it for more than once a week invest in a better one. Google reviews but most have a good warrant.
