Our shingles are relatively new (5 yrs), but water is coming in somewhere close to the chimney. We've tried to roof calk, but still leaks.

You might need the flashing replaced. We had to have ours replaced after a winter with lots of freezing and re-freezing ice. That ice pushed the flashing away from the chimney.

Call in the Roofer who did the job in the first place to put it right.

Did you get a guarantee for the roof? Check your paperwork. Contact the people who did the work and see if they will inspect and fix it free. I always thought a tar product went over the metal flashing in a chimney surround. If you cannot get help from the roofer, see if your homeowners' insurance will pay for the repair before winter and snow come!

Five years it should still be under warranty. Call the company that installed it. Water travels to low spots. They should be able to locate the leak and repair it.
