    Dig them out. I know it's hard but that's the key.

    Hi Sandra. You can dig them out as far as you can and then use a ax to cut the roots that are rooted far down. Sometimes if they aren't as big you can use the shovel to break them. Good Luck.

    I agree with both above, you need to dig up the bushes. Cut them back so you can dig, we cut them down almost to the soil. We went down far enough to where most of the roots were small, cut them off and pulled the stump and big roots out. It was a little easier with the ground a little wetter around the roots.

    Cut them back as far as you can and smother the root system out with heavy lack plastic
