Drill holes in them and continuously drown in vinegar.

They use to make a product which were granules you put on them. Takes a little time but better than trying to dig them out.

Or someone who does stump grinding should do it.

drill 1 inch holes in the stump/roots and fill with Epsom Salts. It will make them deteriorate quickly.

Hello Cindylthompson, In order to get rid of the roots of the trees you cut down they will have to be pulled out. First, however, I think I would take the time to kill them, otherwise sprouts are going to grow up onto the sides of the trunk and a new tree will grow. I would call a professional to pull the roots out because if they are anywhere near the foundation of your home, they will know how to support the walls or porches of your porch that the roots may be growing up against, and how to prevent any collapsing ground/ holes developing as the roots are pulled out (stop and think aobut it, there WILL be collapse was the roots come out and there is no dirt to fill in al lthe areas the roots were filling up). If you can't get someone to come out within a few weeks, you will want to begin killing the roots immediately, and that can be done by dirrling several large holes into the base of the trunk down as far as you can and fill the holes with salt and boiling water --- the saltier the better ... and be VERY careful pouring the hot water in and around the trunk or you can be severely burned. Then cover the trunk with several black plastic bags and firmllllly tie a rope around the bags to keep them tied around the trunks. You want to deprive it of as much light and air as possible until it can be pulled out. Good Luck Cindy, and thanks for using HOMETALK :)

If they are large trees and left large roots, get a professional with liability and property damage insurance and a good reputation to totally remove the stumps. If they only "grind the stump", that means the company cut and chews up the stump until it is foot or less to ground level, then you have to spend about two years trying to get the stump to rot, and still leaves the roots to deal with. If they are medium and at least 3' tall, you and some friends with heavy trucks might want to tie chains around rack trunk and pull them out of the ground. If you are left with very short stumps with the roots, you will have to use several strategies to get the trunks and roots to rot. They need to be removed so you can grow your lawn, plant another tree, or grow flowers. Best wishes and be careful 😇
