They have BBQ cleaner at a store like Home Depot, but my husband has used it on his stainless steel grill and it doesn't always work. Try distilled vinegar and water, 1-2 ratio, see if that works. Takes a lot of elbow work though...

Try a peroxide/baking soda mixture. If it's stainless steel you will want to be careful or buy a specific cleaner for stainless steel. you can spray the grill, in small areas, with peroxide and then sprinkle with baking soda, then spray again with peroxide and let it set for about 15 minutes..then wipe. Good luck.
