Stairway help

My stairway has oak end caps, the spindles are embedded into the end caps on the right side, has a carpet runner up the middle....I want to do away with the carpet runner and have wood or some other material in the middle without having to completely taking apart the stairway....

So there are no treads under the carpet? They make replacement treads, you might have to have custom ones cut as the bullnose is already there.... https://www.stairsupplies.com/product/8090-landing-tread/
If you have finished wood down the sides, the middle is probably the same. Take the carpet out
