I want to make coasters that will stand up to a HOT cup of tea or a cold drink. Is there some way to make them slightly absorbent so that is the cold drinks sweat, you won't have a 'run-off' and get your table ringed or damp?

I cut squares from old mouse pads for coasters.
What are you making them with?
You can buy and cut cork into any shape, and use that. OR get stone tiles, and put rubber or felt pads on the underside. Stone stands up to heat, but won't be absorbent.
4"x4" ceramic tiles. The ones used in the bathroom showers. I had some laying around. Just painted them.
