    Hi Sherri, is the wood or the brick (or both) that is dark? The brick can be "white-washed" with a mixture of water and paint.

    When I did mine, I didn't want it quite so white so I added a little more water.

    Of course if it's the walls/woodwork that is dark, that's what you'll need to paint. Mine has always been white since we put the z-brick on, a LONG time ago. That doesn't mean you have to use white, just a lighter color that you like.

    The easiest is whitewashing with dilute paint or totally painting it using regular house paint. If you hate the brick texture, you can use mortar to tile over it with any tile or even faux stones- they make nice ones with ceramic.
