Paint it! Sand it lightly, paint it with a good primer that will stick to plastic and paint it any way you want. Seal it to keep the color lasting a long time. If it were me, I'd use Unicorn spit for something different. To see what it looks like, use your search engine and type in 'unicorn spit table' and see what you can find.
Here's what my search engine found. Most of them are not as hard as they look: (anything with a drawn pattern is going to be harder, the other ones are a lot easier. https://www.google.com/search?q=unicorn+spit+table&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj50Oeilt3WAhUFYyYKHRJfB2EQsAQILg&biw=1097&bih=551
You can paint it. Just be sure to use really good primer and Home Depot has one that will do the job.

I love tablecloths, runners and placemats and have quite a collection. Another option would be to arrange photos, postcards, pretty paper napkins (or anything flat), on the table then purchase a glass or plexi glass top. You can change with the seasons or holidays. Or paint it.
Have you tried contact paper, it comes in many designs
Build a wood top to cover it.
A round table would be more difficult to cut to fit for DIY project; however, if your table top is either square or rectangle, you could easily use OAK smooth finished plywood (cut to size) to cover it and add oak board trim around it. Lowes will cut the plywood to your specifications -- keep the rest of the plywood for a later DIY project.
Use 2" oak board strips for the side edges. Add the trim pieces to two sides that are opposite each other first (would do the shorter sides first) and then measure the other two sides that are opposite each other.
Next stop is sanding with fine sand paper and removing all the dust.
To finish, cover it with two or three thin coats of polyurethane, making sure each thin coat is dry between sanding and reapplying the next coat.
