There are 16" Living Room tiles. Should I match or change tile color, size etc?

Unless you have the same manufacturer and lot number, matching is not easy so a transition at the door is suggested. Underlayment is suggested for kitchen areas and use unsanded grout in wet areas, this may create a higher floor so why not just have the wood refinished?

Check with the local tile shop if the tiles are still available.

It is your choice. Either way would look great. I personally prefer a matching look because I think it helps tie the look of the house together, and helps one room flow into another very smoothly.

Do you have extra tile left over from the living room... but not enough to do the whole kitchen? You could:

    1. Do a checker board in the kitchen blending the LR tile with a new contrasting tile ( maybe a more subtle version of the black and white. or a tone on tone)

    2. Do a "fade in" of the old into the new.. maybe by removing a few of the LR tiles and inserting some of the new ones in a free style blend

    3. Create a "rug" effect in the kitchen by surrounding the left over LR tiles with the new ones

    4. Use a patterned tile in similar colors to the LR... You could also remove tiles in the LR and insert the patterned ones to make a rug look

I am an AVID fan of DIY network and HGTV... i have seen several of the shows there use some of these ideas in their flipping or rehab projects (one where they contoured the old wood flooring to "blend" in with the new hexagonal tiles in a kitchen and not cut a edge off of the tiles)

      THANKS !
