Some animal digs up my flower bulbs, any suggestion to rid this animal

Different animals don't like different smells. If you could find out which animal it is would help. Right know I'd use cayenne pepper around the area that their digging, and not too close to the plants.

We have a chipmunk dig up over a hundred dollars of crocus & tulip bulbs planted last year - this year no flowers! We used a live trap & hubbie took somewhere 7 let them loose - far away from our house. LOL So far 22. but they are much happier in the forest. Next comes the traps for squirrels.

We have had chipmunks that have dug up over a hundred dollars of crocus & tulip bulbs that we planted last year. This year we got out the live traps & 22 munks have been relocated to the forest or park areas where I know they are happier! Next year it is war on the squirrels that eat all the bird food. We tried a bunch of deterrents but found the live traps baited with a handful of black sunflower seeds a real help. They are still alive & we have our flower beds back.

I used cayenne pepper powder and shredded Irish Spring bar soap. That helped a lot, I didn't lose any bulbs after the rabbits chewed off some of the greens and I fought back. Different story in my huge half barrels. That didn't work! I baited a mouse trap and put one in each barrel. Bait with peanut butter. The snap of the trap did not kill or catch them, but scared the bejesus out of them and they didn't come back for a long time. They started coming up by then and were safe. Every once in a while they would dig a little in my other pots also, even if they were not bulb plants. I did the same thing. Once in a while I will see evidence of a little digging and I repeat. Works for me. I live in a neighborhood full of mature trees and lots of rabbits, squirrels, and chipmunks, also we have red tailed hawks that take care of some of the critters in their way.

I don't have the time to figure out or trap critters. What I do is lay chicken wire mesh over the bulbs before i cover them. Then they can't be dug up and they grow through the mesh openings. The critters can't dig anything up and go to the neighbors yard.
