Put some wine in a glass next to your fruit that is out (I'm assuming that's where they are coming from). Put a piece of plastic wrap over the top of the glass and poke holes in the plastic with a toothpick. Fruit flies will go into the glass and not be able to get out. That's why my local fruit market does when they have the problem.

Start by getting a small glass filled half way with wine, I prefer a sweet one ,cover with plastic wrap. Secure with elastic band. Poke several small holes in the plastic about 4. Make several, and place them around the kitchen. Top of frig, counter tops and where you see them the most. They are attracted to the smell, they enter the holes and drop in and can't get out. This might take a few days, but be patient, it works. Wash all fruits and vegetables that you leave out on the counter. This is why you have fruit flies.

make sure there is no source that they can thrive on; gardens shops have sticky tapes i put on my window sill where i also keep my plants and that seems to take care of them.

The easiest way I have found to get rid of those pesky fruit flies is to put some apple cider vinegar in a little shallow bowl or saucer and add a couple of drops of dish detergent (I use Dawn) . Set the bowl on the counter where the fruit flies are. Remember to check the bowl once in awhile and dump the contents and refill every day or so. Hope it works for you.

Put apple cider vinegar in a small bowl, add a drop or two of dish detergent put plastic wrap over bowl, poke small holes in plastic this attracts the fruit flies, they will crawl in there but can't get out.

Make sure that any fruit or vegetables that come through the door are washed immediately, especially if you plan on leaving them on the counter. Put boiling water down the drains where they like to hang out due to the moisture that is always in the trap. Put up fly strips where they are the most. Check all your houseplants to make sure that you don't have them there also.
