Technically, you could use any sponge, but sea sponges are what are usually used for faux painting techniques because they have an organic look over say a cellulose kitchen sponge. They can be found in big box store paint departments or craft stores. For your two tones of brown, you can use different parts of the sponge for different looks. You can cut a sponge so that you get a cross section of the cells versus the more closed sides of the exterior. Plan on doing either a test board (piece of drywall or plywood that is painted with your base coat that you can test out your colors pattern) Or choose a small wall that you can easier paint over if your first attempt isn't what you wanted. There should still be videos online that show you ideas for Sponge painting.

You can use lots of different types of sponges, but for me, I prefer the large sponges that are typically used for washing cars. They are inexpensive, have a great texture and are easy to find. Also, they are large enough to hold comfortably in your hand. If you want a different pattern, you can cut little pieces or chunks out of the sponge to leave a different pattern as you dab it on the wall.

Go to Home Depot or Lowes . They'll be happy to help you. Or googl sponge painting.

you want a round sponge, sphere. Also you can use plastic bags by wadding them up and dipping in paint. I have sponge painted both ways. I prefer the plastic bag application. I think it is easier.
