To freshen cabinets, you can paint them and add new, updated hardware. Two-tone kitchens are hot right now....lighter upper cabinets and slightly darker lower cabinets. I like a combo of white uppers and light grey lowers.....depending on the style of your house and your countertops, etc. Have fun with it and choose colors you love.
You can wallpaper inside of the outside cabinet if you have raised edges and paint around edge. Looks like a picture frame. Can take centers out and gather fabric inside .
If you need ideas, your home improvement store will have the latest in cabinets. See their sample kitchens and look for what appeals to you. They may also have a kitchen sample book for you to look through. When you see what you like, you can plan from there what to do with your own kitchen and decide what works for you. When you buy supplies, be sure to go back to the same home improvement store to get your supplies. You want to build relationships with the good folks that work there in case you need more help later. They love to help and they deserve the business if they do help.
