You may have green cut worms they blend in well and are ravenous creatures. Look under the leaves and on stalk pull off and put in a bucket with dish soap to kill. They start out from eggs laid in soil and crawl up to eat. Put ground dried egg shell around plants when you first plant to help. I learned the hard way .
