Unless you want it to die, you will need to bring it in for the winter. Even if it is a perennial kind for the north, it will not survive the winter outside in a pot. The root ball will freeze in a pot because the hole pot will freeze soil and all. Look up the type of hibiscus you have to see if the plant you have needs to be cut back and whatever else to do when you bring it inside. Make sure that you check for bugs on leaves and in the soil so you don't spread it to other houseplants. Make sure you give it the amount of light it is used to, even if you need a grow light.

If you don't live in Florida or California, etc. then your hibiscus will not survive the winter. They are tropical plants. You can try bringing it in as Nancy has suggested but most people toss them and start with a new hibiscus in the spring.
