You would probably want to get a spray paint that already has a primer built in to save time. You want one that is made for exterior wood surfaces. And just in case, you might want to seal it with a weather proof sealer.
I've always had great luck with Krylon......but the key is to make sure that the bench has been sanded well and primed so the color goes on evenly.
If you stick to a name brand, Valspar, Krylon or Rustoleum, you should be able to find a good outdoor paint.

I agree with Roxaneg. Use a good outdoor paint. Be sure to seal it.
