How to scrape & paint outdoor window frames

My outdoor window frames have cracking & peeling paint. What's the best (easiest) way to clean them, & then to paint ? Also are you supposed to paint the sides of the frames where they close into the window frame ?

Try using a heat gun, along with a putty knife should pretty easy to get it all off.
Use caution with the heat gun. Some can be very intense, and can project the heat farther than a person might think. Do not try to save money by not wearing proper gloves.
