Is the table wooden? I use Old English to remove the sight of scratches. If the gouges are deep, use a wax crayon for furniture first, then apply the Old English. It comes in light or dark color. I use it to clean all my wooden furniture every week on the top and 2 times a year all over the wooden furniture (legs , sides etc).

I used to use Old English - but stumbles upon a great product - Restore-A Finish. Purchase at Big box Hardware stores like Home Depot. Polish on with a soft cloth, then wipe clean with a 2nd cloth. Wax on top after.
