What would you use instead, or nothing? If there is no grout dirt will fall between the tiles no matter how close you lay them.

Have you considered laminate flooring? They fit together without a glue.

Grout is not the same as glue. The glue goes on the backing of the tiles as they are positioned on the floor. Then the grouting goes on, in the spaces in between the tiles.

Yes, but you will have spaces between the tiles that will be uneven, collect dirt, and be a trip hazard. I think they make special tiles that lock and don't need grout...check with a company that specializes in doing floors

  • How would they stay in place other than the mortar? What about all the nooks and crannies to clean? I would not recommend it.

You definitely need grout. It holds the tiles together and creates a smooth surface,
