When I had this happen, I didn't deal with the springs. I cut a piece of plywood to fit over the springs and under the cushions.
Put a piece of plywood underneath. Here's how to do it:

If they are 'S' type you can use a pair of locking pliers and bend each 'C' togethera bit it is a spring so make sure you are bending it. It will put the strength back in them
