You could use a sail hung from the ceiling to simulate a tent. Keep the trees, stickers and ceiling with stars that Karen suggested and be sure to hang the sail high enough that a toddler wouldn't be able to reach it.
Paint murals on the walls that look like woods, with birds and animals. Make a floor cloth that looks like a bon fire. Make a sleeping bag for his crib, maybe convert a baby bottle into a canteen?

I have seen where you can take a can of great stuff foam spray, spray it on a plastic tarp in the shape of a tree with branches. Carefully remove t from the tarp after it sets for a day or two, mount it on the wall. You can put birds and leaves and butterflies on it. Hang a chain from the ceiling and hang a canvas tent over the crib.
