Can you eat and cook with black walnuts that haven't been dryed(cured)

Yesterday, my children and I worked all day to hull and shell black walnuts, we were so excited to use the nut cracker my grandfather forged many years ago,we set out to harvest walnuts and cracked them the same day,I didn't know they should have been dried first or do you only have to dry them for long term storage?I thought when I was younger I remember my grandma hulling and cracking walnuts the same day when she intended to cook with them. Any knowledge or advice would be greatly appreciated. As everyone knows it's extremely hard to get fresh walnut meat and hate to have slaved all day for nothing! Thanks

Thanks, it says dry them if they aren't to be cracked right away, so it seems they are okay to bake with after all.I scoured the internet last night for hours and couldn't find anything related to harvesting and shelling the same day.

Thank you, I have read so many different things about harvesting but not a single thread answered my question, so I washed them last night and set the bowl outside , prepared to toss them all out to the critters today.Yes , we all wore gloves and old clothes, well we all started out with gloves and my oldest son (15) decided he could get the hulls off better without them, he was regretting that decision minutes later. Lol!!
