Yes, you can grow a tree, but it might not bear fruit, ever! The seed, depending on where you got it, is probably sterile. If it isn't sterile, it might take as long as 8 years before fruit appears. Different states have agricultural restrictions, such as not shipping citrus trees to Calif., Florida, etc., so the lemons, etc., in stores for eating usually have sterile seeds and many plant nursery trees are the same. They'll produce fruit, but sterile seeds. I think it may also have to do with the breeding to get lemons that have fewer and smaller seeds.. but give it a try? Lemon leaves are delightfully fragrant and it could be kept as a shrub or ornamental tree...

Yes, you can. Keep it as a houseplant unless you are in the right climate for outdoor lemon trees! The fruit will likely be small and really bitter, but it will bear. Same goes with other citrus fruit. :)
