I have been saving glass containers for a couple of months, thinking I can do something with those later. I also have been wanting to try painting on glass. Not long ago, I bought a glass bottle with sunflowers 🌻 painted on it, at a thrift store. My granddaughter wanted it for her kitchen. Of course, it now belonged to her. Well, she dropped it and broke it on her way inside her house. MeeMee, will you paint me another one? My comment was I need to buy glass paint. Her request gave me a purpose to purchase glass paint. I have painted on many surfaces, but never on glass. This week while thrifting, I found a few glass pieces. I also had a couple of jars, a bubble bath bottle and a couple of blank candle containers, I had saved to repurpose. My last shopping stop was Hobby Lobby, love, love ❤️ this store. While there, I purchased an assortment of FolkArt enamel paints for glass and Mod Podge dishwasher safe paste. This was my first time to use either of these products. Oh, I also bought two enamel paint pens.
One piece of glass, I found at the thrift store, was a platter with a candlestick glued on the bottom. With a vision in mind, I also bought a small bowl that just fit in the middle of the dish. The platter had tissue paper glued to it where someone had maybe started a project before they donated the piece to charity. I soaked the platter in hot soapy water to remove the tissue. The candlestick (base) was well glued, it didn't budge, even after soaking in hot water.
Scrub a dub dub
After cleaning and drying the piece, I decided to make a sunflower on the plate and paint coordinating flowers on the bowl. I thought this set would be a perfect chip and dip set Or each could be used separately.
Using the Folk Art Enamel Paint, I painted the center 4013 Coffee Bean, the flower with 4017 Lemon Custard and the stem with 4036 Evergreen. The store was out of black, so I used the black paint marker to go around the edge of the brown.
The bottom
I painted on the bottom of the dish and the outside of the bowl, so food will not come in contact with the paint.
Next, I started painting on the bowl and on the glass jars I saved.
I painted leaves on one jar and a pumpkin on the other jar.
I also painted the tops of the jars.
Crafting is therapeutic 😉
On the jar with leaves, I painted a tree with fall colored foliage. On the jar with a pumpkin, I painted a pumpkin on top. I painted a cotton boll on the Yankee candle container and on the bubble bath container, I painted a colorful retro design. On the other candle I wrote "Relax" ( since it is lavender scented) and added retro designs.
Waterproofing 💦
My last step was to use the Mod Podge to protect the finish. I could have tried baking the glass items, but I decided to opt for trying the Mod Podge. I painted each piece and let dry. The drying time is quick, but not the curing time. The directions say curing time is twenty-eight days, then the pieces should be top rack, dishwasher safe. Time will tell.
Finished!
One jar, I filled with candy corn and peanuts, added a piece of orange fabric and tied twine around the top, with a tag that says "Happy Fall" . The other jar, I filled with peanut butter kisses and tied a piece of rope around the top. I will use these jars to give as "thank you" gifts to community service people, friends and family. I am painting many more jars for sharing. The chip and dip set / cake plate and bowl has already been requested by Miss Audrey. I think I will keep the Yankee candle with the cotton boll.
Just for fun, I tried out the the look of the items on my fall decorated table. I love the colors.
"Happy Fall Y'all!" 🍂🌾🍁🌻
My curious assistant, Silvey, helping to display some of the supplies used for these projects. If you notice, she 🐾 is in several of the pictures.

Wow! Is your name Susan, too? Several years ago, there was a jewerly store going out of business, I bought two really small gold wedding bands. I wear those on my toes. They fit perfectly. LOL

Went to Michael's yesterday and bought your list items. I get very overwhelmed in that place. I have sooo many stray glass items. Do you have a website of ideas?
