I have a large fireplace surround which is looking dirty and broken.

Too expensive to have a stone mason redo, anyone have an attractive fix?

    I had the same fire place at one time. Personally I wouldn't fix it except for the cement issue you spoke of.

    Clean the stone: stonecare.com/Products/Cleaners

    Change up the display on the mantle

    Go to a stone lot and find out the best way to fix any damage. It may be that just some mortar will do.

    clean it with a fireplace cleaner. If it is smokey then chimney is not drawing the smoke out properly. Is closer fully open? Call chimney cleaner if you do not find anything wrong

    Make sure all stones are solid and it's only cosmetic. You can always paint it.

    Thanks. I've considered that but not sure if I'd have to mix colors or paint it ALL one color.

    thank you but we do have our chimney cleaned every year since we heat with the insert.
