Use an effective castor oil-based repellent to drive armadillos out and to prevent them from digging for food on your property. Castor oil is an all-natural oil that penetrates the ground, and repels armadillos in two ways: spoils the food sources (insects, grubs, etc.) underground, making them unpleasant to eat.

Have you put in a trap door-- they can get out, but they cant get in? Mothballs or an ammonia-soaked rag in the hole to discourage them. There are also humane traps that can be used with old fruits or earthworms to draw them in so you can take them to someone else's. . . no, so you can take them far, far away.
My uncle used a product called Armadillo Scram and smelly stuff in the holes-- vinegar, ammonia, mothballs, pine needles and bark-- to discourage them. He wouldn't say which worked best, be he did eventually get rid of them and then built a fence around his property so they couldn't return.
The armadillos are looking for grubs in which case it is spray for them or change your grass to zoysia
