Don't know if this recipe would be good for garden, though.

Well that's an age old question! You can pull by hand or go to your local garden center and ask for some advice about what would work in your area.

Try very hot water, wait for the weeds to die 1-2. days, then soak with the hose, wait 3 hours, then put your hand a close to the ground as possible, and pull the weeds. They should come out weeds and root.

My parents had children just so they would have someone to pull the weeds.

Hot water, a vinegar spray, Roundup all kill weeds. Pulling the weeds and making sure you get the root is important. Roundup is a commercially-made weed killer that really does a good job, but if you don't want to invest in it, then hot water and a vinegar spray are the next two best things.

Once the hot water or vinegar has killed the weeds which takes a few days, you really don't have to pull the weeds unless there are seeds/seed pods Those fall down to the ground, reseed the weed and causes you to have to haul out the weed killer again. The Roundup is supposed to become neutralized over time and the vinegar will leave some residual acidity that will discourage weeds until a good watering or rain shower washes it away.

If you don't want to use chemicals, spray a 1:1 water to vinegar mixture onto weeds or pour boiling water on the base of them. The boiling water will kill them instantly, the vinegar/water mix in a few days.
