Is there straight grapevine?

I want to wrap grapevine around a 2 foot candleholder with legs and a holder for the candle. I know soaking grapevine will make it softer. Can grapevine I cut myself when it is fresh be used because of it's flexability. How much will it shrink when it has dried out? Any ideas are appreciated.

Cutting pieces off a grape vine will not result in the pieces becoming naturally dried out the way say lotus flower pods dry. After you cut pieces off any grape vine, they will quickly begin to disintegrate, and will not stay fresh. They do not act like cut flowers.
The thin branches of grape vines are actually quite brittle and hard. It is mainly the growing tendrils and the leaves that have the flexible ability to curl around and intertwine.

I've never worked with grape vine but I use my Clematis vines all the time to make wreaths. When it's time to cut back the vines, you have nothing to loose by winding them around what ever you choose to decorate. Cut off the leaves, unless you prefer to keep them, and wind while still malleable. They will eventually dry. When I have to tie them to keep them where I want them I use old pantyhose cut into thin strips. They are easier on the vines than wires or string and if they don't disappear into the design they can be snipped away when the vines are dried. I've even used dried day lily foliage for fall crafting. You never know what works till you've tried it. On the other side of the coin, you never now what won't work till you've eliminated it.
