it depends on how many plants you have and where you have them. over the 8ft long tables the florescent grow tubes cover a lot of territory. in the upstairs a single plant or pair will share a spot light type fixture.
i got this tip from the town electrician--buy the light bulbs by leumens, not by wattage. also get bulbs that say"daylight" its a full spectrum bulb.
They have LED grow lights that cost a bit more, but last longer and use less electricity. I use one for my orchids and they're pretty happy.
