Unfortunately, I don't have that problem, but have heard to hang all your clothes hangers the same way, only changing the direction of the ones you wear the most. After a week or two you will be able to see exactly what you wear by the hangers that are turned in the opposite direction, helping you to thin out your clothes.

i have a small closet. I have to get the vacuum storage bags and switch my clothes out for winter or summer. Helps a lot. I also have over the door hooks for my bedroom door for my robe and jackets

Chances are if you are not wearing certain clothing within a six month-year time period, you won't wear them. Consider sorting and donating some of them. If that is not your situation, vacuum storage bags are great to change out clothing seasonally for more storage.
