Replace some insulation batting in the attic. What do I need to know?

Some insulation got wet from roof damage in the last tornado. The new roof is on. Is this a DIY project for me or do I need a professional? A few spots are vertical pieces that are part of the outside wall. The other places are in the floor of the attic that is over my garage. What are the big safety concerns and common mistakes I need to be aware of? Thanks.

.Karen, Since some of the insulation is part of the outside wall, I would call in a professional and let them handle it WITH THE KNOWLEDGE that you are going to be right there watching the entire process (and asking questions from time to time, of course) because you are a very caring homeowner and need to know everything that happens in your home ;) It never hurts to know exactly what was done to your place and how and WHY. They may have used some sort of insulation that a layman can't get ahold of, or have some sort of knowledge that you as a homeowner can glean from them for your own use or to relay to someone else in the future. That's how I see it anyway. Then you really get your money's worth -- the job gets done and you get a basic knowledge of how-to and why. Thanks for using HOMETALK :) Good Luck!
Thank you. I am still tempted to try it on my own because I know what I had removed and it it sold in local home stores. It is only about 20 square feet that is against on outside wall. It is inside a utility closet that is a crawl space area. I do have a friend who is general contractor who can inspect my work.

Yes, Wear a Mask and Gloves when you remove this Wet Material. Make sure the under floor is thoroughly dry before putting down new material ( available in DIY stores) and that's it............
