what kind of condition are they in? Are you going to restore the kitchen to the 1950's look, or repurpose them ?

I have seen some cute makeovers done with paint. My favorite was a turquoise vintage kitchen with red as an accent color. If you want to paint them, use a paint meant for metal. If you are replacing them, they make great garage and basement cabinets for storage.

Exactly what do you want to do to them or with them?

I had a set of Montgomery Ward's Signature steel cabinets in my house. Moved them to the garage workshop when we redid the kitchen in 1980. All in all they were better cabinets than the custom made particle board cabinets from the cabinet shop in town. Styles change and everything old is new again. You may just take them out right when they come back in fashion.

If you don't want them, I would definately sell them. A person that does period renovations would snap them up in a heartbeat and pay for them. Personally, I would clean them up, do any repairs necessary and choose a paint color to go with your decor. They are usually built much better than wood cabinets and will hold up in the case of a broken pipe.

It looks like Amy Howard's chaulk or laquer paints would solve your problem (that is if you want to chaNGE THE LOOK,)

Do not destroy them. If you don't want them, put them on E-Bay for local pick-up or call a dealer in mid-modern furnishings. You may be surprised at what they bring.

if you want to paint them, they first need to be cleaned sooooo wellllll! Tsp might be your best crud cutter. The best finish would be with a spray. you can rent one at a big box store. OR if take them down to repaint, check automotive body shops, see if they can paint them for you. The finish would be perfect!
