Something has left dark spots 'running down' the walls in cabin

Any Idea what this is? Any ideas on how to remove it? I tried scrubbing with Simple Green but it didn't budge! Oh deed! Someone said it may be Squirrel Urine!
We are trying to pay for it as we go.
First time I noticed it.
This was a month or so later!!! This isn't the only place now!

We don't have an attic, just open and then a loft across from the 2 small windows. This is insulation is fixed now and the eves have been covered (like they should have been!)

Could that be pitch or tar from your roof?

Something is seeping down from the attic. You can see it came through at the seam where the ceiling meets the wall. Take a look in the attic and let us know what you find. Someone has set something up there that has started to leak out of a deteriorating can or there's some kind of animal nest. See if it is oily, or smells of oil, or smells like urine.

With no attic, I imagine there is still plenty of little room for critters to have gotten through between the roof (shingles) and the insulated ceiling. This is what happens, I guess, when you try to build something like this, little by little. We don't give up though! This site is fantastic for helping each other in so many ways!!!

I would definitely check out the attic. Also during a bright day, go up in the attic and see if you see light coming in where it shouldn't be. Remember where the spots are and patch them so that no cold air or critters can come in by the attic. Make sure to disinfect the areas where it is coming down the wall. Vinegar has excellent antibacterial and antifungal properties, so wipe it down, don't rinse and let the area air dry. It should take care of any odor, too.

I'm glad we don't have an attic. (more places to put more clutter! LOL) I have COPD really bad now but hope to go up there next week. I'm taking non-expandable foam, silicone caulking and lots of vinegar!!! I'm getting too old & tired to do the work I used to, but I will do all I can and then call the grandsons!

Gee I would think if you had bats, you would smell them for sure... bat guano is really odiferous. Do you have pack rats there?

I think I would use lemon ammonia, its stronger to remove stains, wear gloves and eye protection up there.

Is there a bathroom above? Or other water source?

My grandkids aren't old enough, but my kids help us out a lot. My oldest just took a week off from work to help hubby replace break lines in Tahoe so we had a vehicle to drive, rather than taking the other son to work every day in his car. We live with middle kid, he helps a lot with heavy lifting, yard work, etc. Our daughter, the youngest, lives in town and between her and her friends, they help us a lot since hubby who also has COPD, is handicapped and has balance problems. The offer of a home made meal usually is all that is needed to get the help we need with things I can't do.

I'll even do steaks on the grill and stand in the snow! LOL... I'm just not good at asking...but about time I start!

I had something that looked like this only on my concrete slab here in AZ. It was termites. HOPE that helps and you don't have them.

It may be honey from bees in the wall...

Hi Jean, Do you have gutters that need to be cleaned out? The overhang may be getting drenched from the overflow from your gutters causing it to come in at that seam. Just a thought.

    Good luck!

Oh, yuk! I think you are going to have to take off a ceiling panel to see what it really is. I've had a leaky roof in my cabin, but it takes much longer for water to leave dark marks. Could just be a building material seeping through, rather than something organic.
