Yikes! They are burrowing around my house, at one point got in a wall. How to get rid of them? I have a dog, laying rat traps or poison is not an option.

I would certainly call a pest control company if your problem has come this far. Your right, you can't risk your dogs health.

Hi Debi, Well here is a short video by a man who makes a living at this osrt of thing. Do what he says and it won't be long before you can stop worrying about chipmunks burrowing around your home or getting into the walls. Good Luck and thanks for using HOMETALK for answers ;)

Now this looks interesting! I'll give her a whirl. I just hope I'm not just feeding (and watering) other critters that grace me from the woods and lake!

Once again, wow Janet. Actually lots of people have actually found my advice helpful and I have received many thank you's. Researching for a home remedy is actually not always the appropriate thing to do. If you have an infestation of rodents , in my opinion you do need to hire a professional to take care of this problem. Once again, please curb your anger.

This would be oh so great if I had extra money to do so; and believe me, I would do so. And it very well may be the appropriate thing to do; however, I surely don't have that amount of cash on hand and I wouldn't have inquired upon you DIY'ers, had I not needed to DIMyself! lol Also, I live near a woods and a lake, so this is something that most definitely will not go away for good and will just need to be managed as much as possible. After all, I am living in THEIR space. :D

i took out 36 chipmunks one summer doing what the video guy says above. I used a 5 gal bucket And filled about 3/4 of the way. Had a 2 x 4 sitting in garage. Put it against the side of your house/fence in a high traffic area. Mice and animals are more comfortable there. They run close to the perimeter. You do the same with snap traps in your home For mice. I used sunflower seeds. Cheaper and I already had it for my bird feeders. First bucket had 6. After that 2-4. Now the not so good part was I was dumping them in the field and coyotes started to come in to eat them. Lol! And that my friend is advice from a pest control owners wife! Never buy ultrasonic pest devices. Waste of money. The poison blocks used for mice do not work on chippies. They don't like it And usually just toss it back out the hole.
