If the hall is narrow, you might consider hanging hooks for coats and winter care. We have hooks by our side door and use them all year long.
there are plastic large hooks that mount an a wall with a removable adhesive. I've had those hooks holding my coats, hand bags, hats for the past 4 yrs. you can put the coats on a hanger then put on hook if you want
You can sand and varnish a 2x4 with hooks or knobs. Varnish can be rustic or modern or you could paint it white or sanded white for country chic. Long but simple and can be elegant.
You could hang something like this rack that doesn't stick out very far, and then you would have hooks to hang coats, umbrellas, bags, etc without taking up any floorspace in the narrow hallway.
Hi Vicky, Here's a link with lots of nice ideas! https://www.google.com/search?q=Make+coat+hanging+space+in+long+narrow+hall&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjC3Nu-w-fWAhUERyYKHWMTBxsQsAQIcg&biw=1600&bih=794
Good luck!
Attack a long plank, smooth, painted or stained, across the entire length of the hall. Five feet high, or up to six feet if you family is all tall or grown, should fit, screwed into all the studs the plank crosses. Attach strong hooks every 18" for hanging coats, scarves and purses. If you need a boot space, at the least I suggest a big box where shoes can be left to dry out. Hang a long mirror, even if it is above your eyesight. It will still seve to make the space seem larger. Try to keep the hallway cleared out of anything not needed. Best wishes 😇💖
