Sometimes it's just not in the budget to replace old, ugly, outdated paneling with new drywall. So here's a home improvement hack - don't! Turn that grooved wood paneling into what appears to be fresh drywall!
There really isn't much to making paneling look like drywall! Check out my more detailed tutorial on my blog or keep reading this for the general gist!
First you want to etch and clean the paneling! This will ensure that the paint sticks well and for a long time. I use TSP to clean and etch simultaneously!
Then I filled all the wood paneling lines in with lightweight spackle. I wound up doing this about three times because the spackle kept shrinking as it dried. You shouldn't be able to feel anything but perfectly smooth wall when you rub your hands over it (after sanding the spackle of course!)
Next you're going to prime! After that dries you can cut in the wall and then roll!! You'll most likely wind up doing two coats of your final paint color! And then voila! You have what now looks like drywall!
