A special gift for a house warming party.

$17 and a few minutes at the second hand store and I have a gift for a special friend.

I purchased a glass and metal lamp for $8, Two large serving dishes for $3 each, a glass lampshade for $4.

I began by removing the electrical cord and switch on the lamp.

The black circle was easily removed from the bottom. Then I removed the switch and pulled the cord out.

I used clear gorilla glue to adhere the lamp base to my inverted bowl base.

The brass tone metal was pitted and rusty in spots, so I sanded them down and sponged on some Martha Stewart Metallic Paint in copper. I also glued a bead in the hole where the switch came out of, to prevent water from entering inside the lamp base.

I chose this glass lamp shade to go over the top of the lamp where the socket was. It is 4” deep and open on both ends. The small end rested on the top of the lamp perfectly. Leaving the larger opening to adhere to the top bowl lending stability.

Be sure to use a level at each stage to keep all pieces straight. I also painted the base of my basin piece as it was unfinished. Next step was to glue the yellow lamp shade to my final piece.

This is all the components, reverted. When it was completely dry, I used a clear silicone bath sealer to secure all the joints. I will finalize the project by applying a spray on sealer to improve weathering performance.

This is the final project, it is 24” tall. The base is 14” wide and the top is 17” wide. this is a piece that will look beautiful in the garden as a bird bath, bird feeder or in the house as a plant stand or on the front porch.
