I would put them in the ground as soon as possible. Provide plenty of water as needed and Miracle Grow once a week, until they take hold.

You can put them in the ground before winter if they're still alive. They normally die down in winter, but hopefully their roots would have taken hold during winter, and will grow out healthily in Spring/Summer. Remember that slugs and snails love their leaves, so protect them from those pests in whichever way you prefer.

As long as you are not expecting a frost over the next month, go ahead and plant them. Mulch them well

If your weather is cool right now I would bring them in. Make sure that you keep them in the shady part of the house while giving them some sunlight. I would suggest a eastern window or even a northern one. I have hostas in both places and they are doing fine. Make sure you give them water and do not drown them. Better yet put them in a bowl or bucket so they can draw on the water when they need them. Do not fuss over them as most of the time they do not like it. They will probably go dormant so don't fret. Most places guarantee their plants for one year so the store may refund your money or even replace them. My experience is to try to save them as stores can be fussy. You might also give them some help with coffee grounds or even tea bags. All used of course and cool. Even egg shells work to help build better plants.

Hi Everyone, Thank you so much for all the replies. I am in Colorado. We had are first hard freeze two nights ago. They say it will be lows of mid 30's & highs of 70's during the next 10 days. The plants are still outside. The leaves are hanging lower this morning. I can email my extention center. I forgot about them. Thank you!

If the pot has drain holes, you can just put them in the ground now, cover them with some leaves and they will sprout again in the spring.
