Is it OK to put an area rug in the living room and the dining room?

I just got hardwood floors that I think are way to dark, I have an area rug in the living room but not the dining room. The floor plan is open with the living room close to the dining room which is in the smaller part of the L shape

If that is to your liking, then yes you can.

Hello, as long as the area rug has a non slip backing it will look really nice on a hardwood floor.

  • Sure why not? Done all the time and they should not match, but coordinate.

yes if the rugs are large enough to accommodate a sitting area in the living room like the dining room. This gives the room a homey feeling and warm atmoshphere.

I think putting an area rug in your dining room is great, just make sure it's big enough to also hold the chairs. That's the biggest problem is people put a little rug under the table - what about the chairs... It also looks like a separate room.
